The Great Unfinished Novel.

Or maybe

The Great About To Be Finished Novel

Or maybe

The Great Novel

Who knows? This is a synopsis what I wrote for a publisher:

Have you ever wondered what might happen if you stepped outside the picture frame? What would happen if you did the sort of things that people like you just don’t do. What would happen if, for once, you ignored that voice in your head, the voice that said “These people are mad. It’s time to go home.”

John was 30, one foot in youthful freedom, the other in adult responsibility. 30. It’s that ‘now or never’ time. Do it now or regret it forever. Do it now or put a down payment on a suburban cul-de-sac. What was that line about it being better to live one day as a lion than a lifetime as a sheep? John did it. He ignored the voice.

Slightly obsessed with Kerouac’s “On The Road”, John went off looking for his own Dean Moriarty. Trouble was, he found him. A chance encounter with a deranged drug dealer who thought he was the Devil in Milton’s Paradise Lost was one thing. Walking through Bangkok airport with a stomach full of high quality dope was another. Sitting in a hotel room in Amsterdam trying to melt the contents of a Quality Street tin… Maybe not even Dean Moriarty would have done that.

Gaijin Strategies is a true story – more or less, a picaresque tale of what can happen when you stray off the path.
